Robben Ford needs no introduction. One of the most versatile guitarist's current recordings, Ford has a tradition of surrounding himself with the “cream of the crop” musicians. Last time I saw him he had Hillary Jones on drums and Roscoe Beck on bass. Not too shabby company to be keeping. This time is no different, featuring Brannen Temple on drums, Jimmy Earl on bass and Louis Pardini on keyboards, Ford excels on many of his signature songs including a ten minute plus version of Lovin' Cup.
Inakustik has become the premier distributor of high quality DVD's. You can always depend on excellent sound levels and tasteful camera work. They offer a wide range of DVD's from Leo Kottke, Sue Foley, Walter Trout and Omar and the Howlers just to name a few.
This concert was recorded in Paris in May of 2001 and showcases his winning combination of blues, jazz, and rock styles. Starting with a rather short (3:39) version of Prisoner of Love, Ford and band flow effortlessly from one song to another allowing for the applause. The instrumental Just Like It Is (5:59) finds Ford trading licks with keyboardist Louis Pardini in this up tempo rocker. One thing you can always depend on is never hearing a flaw in the band's performance. They work together like a well oiled machine.
As a bonus feature they offer a 25 minute interview with Robben Ford as he gives you the background of his upbringing, influences on his career and many background details.
