Based in Knoxville Tennessee, I have
been around Blues and Music for most of my life. The
playing started young, at age 9... with piano, trumpet
and the discovery of guitar at age 14 after hearing Bill
Haley & the Comets. Influenced by early Rock and
older Swing, I eventually formed a band and started
playing at age sixteen. Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, and
Elvis were big influences on me musically.
In collaboration with my lifelong friend, Jon Stocklin,
we formed a garage band to make money for our college
education (well, mostly to have a lot of fun). Upon
graduation from Southern Illinois University in
Carbondale, IL, our band, The Nite Owls, went on to
record at the famous 2120 South Michigan Avenue studios
of Chess Records (more on this later). The passion for
Blues Harp and Guitar began to swelter with the meeting
of legends Paul Butterfield and Mike Bloomfield. Through
them and others, I met many Blues legends in Chicago.
Although I love all types of music, Blues has become my
passion.
Growing up in Illinois and eventually migrating to
Tennessee two decades later, the computer and digital
camera evolved as my new "obsession" -- which led to a
career in freelance photojournalism. I travel most of the
country east of the Mississippi while covering Blues
Festivals and a massive array of Artists. I write CD
reviews, interview the musicians and act as contributing
editor for Blueswax (an online music publication). Many
of my creative works have been published extensively on
the Internet in addition to gracing the pages of several
Blues societies journals. Photography and journalism
unite to be the main ingredients of my business... from
Club shoots of bands to writing about the clubs - hence
the creation and existence of this website!
I possess an extensive vinyl record collection, which is
represented by the auctions and set sales on this site;
the objective now is to sacrifice this lifelong record
compilation... No more room left in the house!
Collectors, prepare to be amazed! What a Packrat! I won't
be selling much Blues, but you'll probably find most
anything else in the way of music.
I invite you to search around on this website -- there's
TONS of info for Blues lovers and musicians alike. Thanks
for visiting my site.
"It is for my many musician friends and those making
Music their life that this site is dedicated - It's all
about the Blues!"
